The Keele - Exeter young cluster survey : I . Low mass pre - main sequence stars in NGC 2169

چکیده
We have used RCIC CCD photometry from the Isaac Newton telescope and intermediate resolution spectroscopy from the Gemini North telescope to identify and characterise low-mass (0.15 < M/M⊙ < 1.3) pre-main sequence stars in the young open cluster NGC 2169. Isochrone fitting to the highand low-mass populations yields an intrinsic distance modulus of 10.13 −0.09 mag and a model-dependent age of 9±2Myr. Compared with the nearby, kinematically defined groups of a similar age, NGC 2169 has a large low-mass population which potentially offers a more precise statistical investigation of several aspects of star formation and early stellar evolution. By modelling the distribution of low-mass stars in the IC versus RC −IC diagram we find that any age spread among cluster members has a Gaussian full width at half maximum 6 2.5Myr. A young age and small age spread (< 10Myr) are supported by the lack of significant lithium depletion in the vast majority of cluster members. There is no clear evidence for accretion or warm circumstellar dust in the low-mass members of NGC 2169, bolstering the idea that strong accretion has ceased and inner discs have dispersed in almost all low-mass stars by ages of 10Myr.

TIME-SERIES PHOTOMETRY OF STARS IN AND AROUND THE LAGOON NEBULA. I. ROTATION PERIODS OF 290 LOW-MASS PRE-MAIN-SEQUENCE STARS IN NGC 6530 Citation
We have conducted a long-term, wide-field, high-cadence photometric monitoring survey of ∼50,000 stars in the Lagoon Nebula H ii region. This first paper presents rotation periods for 290 low-mass stars in NGC 6530, the young cluster illuminating the nebula, and for which we assemble a catalog of infrared and spectroscopic disk indicators, estimated masses and ages, and X-ray luminosities. The ...
متن کاملNGC 146: A young open cluster with a Herbig Be star and intermediate mass pre-main sequence stars
We present UBV CCD photometry and low-resolution spectra of stars in the field of the young open cluster NGC 146. UBV photometry of 434 stars were used to estimate the E(B−V) reddening of 0.55 ± 0.04 mag and BV photometry of 976 stars were used to estimate a distance modulus of (m−M)0 = 12.7 ±0.2 mag, corresponding to a distance of 3470 −305 pc. We estimated 10 – 16 Myr as the turn-off age for ...
متن کاملThe Discovery of a Population of Pre-Main Sequence Stars in N66/NGC346 from Deep HST/ACS Images
We report the discovery of a rich population of low mass stars in the young, massive star forming region N66/NGC346 in the Small Magellanic Cloud, from deep V, I and Hα images taken with the HST/ACS. These stars have likely formed together with the NGC346 cluster, ≃ 3-5 Myr ago. Their magnitude and colors are those of pre-main sequence stars in the mass range 0.6-3 M⊙, mostly concentrated in th...
متن کاملCircumstellar discs around solar - mass stars in NGC 6611
We have performed IZJHKL observations in NGC6611, the young cluster that ionises the Eagle Nebula. We have discovered a rich pre-main sequence concentrated around the O-stars in the cluster. As measured by their L-band excesses, at least 58%± 5% of the pre-main sequence objects (0.45M⊙ <M< 2M⊙) have circumstellar discs. By comparing this disc frequency with frequencies determined for regions wh...
متن کاملThe Lithium Depletion Boundary in NGC 2547 as a test of pre - main - sequence evolutionary models
Intermediate resolution spectroscopy from the ESO Very Large Telescope is analysed for 63 photometrically selected low-mass (0.08-0.30 M ⊙) candidates of the open cluster NGC 2547. We have confirmed membership for most of these stars using radial velocities , and found that lithium remains undepleted for cluster stars with I > 17.54 ± 0.14 and K s > 14.86 ± 0.12. From these results, several pre...
